BIOGRAPHY

Marius Jansen van Vuuren is a multidisciplinary sculptor, building large scale artworks in public spaces in addition to creating bronze and mixed media sculptures.

Born in 1981, Jansen van Vuuren received his BTech: Fine Art degree from the Central University of Technology in 2009 where he became interested in sculpture and teaching. Following this, his 9 year career as art educator and facilitator brought about a fascination with cultural differences and social engagement, which ultimately translated into his art.

In 2016 he built his first giant sculpture as part of the flagship project of the Free State Art Festival. This led to collaborations with international artists on a variety of large-scale works, including the world’s largest straw squirrel in Kazakhstan, as well as works in China and the UK.
